Updated August 2016
Parents/Guardians: You must complete the required Go Home Plan form (download above) for each McDonald student. Please bring these plans to the Back to School Event on Tuesday September 6, 2016 or send them with your child on the first day of school.
If your child is taking the bus and you don't yet know your child's bus #, no problem. Just leave the bus number on the form blank. The Transportation Dept will give teachers a list of assigned bus numbers for all students who are taking the bus home by the first day of school.
**If your child has permission to walk home themselves, please write that on the form**
Please note that for any day during the year when your child will leave school differently than indicated on their Go Home Plan, you must submit a Go Home Change Note (download form above) by the start of the school day.
When After School Activities begin in October, no further action is needed if you sign your student up for activities that start right after school. Teachers will get a list of which students are going to what After School Activities so they can make the appropriate changes to those students' go home charts.
Please respect our neighbors and do not block driveways or park in no-parking zones.
Our narrow neighborhood streets have a hard time accommodating two-way traffic. In order to minimize traffic jams during drop-off and pick-up times, please:
Parking is not allowed: in the staff/teacher parking lot, in the bus zone on 55th St, or in front of the school on 54th St during drop-off and pick-up times.
Parking is allowed: on surrounding streets and further down on 54th and 55th.
School starts at 7:55am and school ends at 2:05pm.
From 7:40-7:50am the playground will be supervised. Students may not arrive at school before 7:40am. Please drop off your child before the first bell rings at 7:50am.
If you are droping off your child and not parking, rolling drop-offs are allowed on NE 54th St. in front of the school beginning at 7:40am. Please drive westbound on 54th from Latona and drop off on the north side of 54th (the school side of the street). Our narrow neighborhood streets have a hard time accommodating two-way traffic.
Under no circumstances should you drop your student(s) off in the middle of the street - it's dangerous for the child(ren) and blocks traffic for those cars behind you - please pull all the way over to the curb before you let your student(s) out.
Note: SDOT parking now has a 1-minute drop-off zone on NE 54th in front of our school. This was done in response to requests from parents and the need to create a safer drop-off zone in front of our school.
If you want to park and wait on the playground with your child, please find a parking space along one of the nearby residential streets. Parking is not allowed in the bus zone on 55th St, on 54th St in front of the school, or in the staff/teacher parking lot. Parking is allowed on surrounding streets and further down on 54th and 55th.
There will be a teacher on "bus duty" in the morning. Students getting off the bus go to the playground - not into the building.
Teachers will meet their students on the playground in the morning all year long. Teachers will line up their classes when the first bell rings at 7:50a, please drop your children off before then. The last/tardy bell rings at 7:55am. By that time, it's expected that students are already in their classrooms, ready to learn.
If your child arrives after the last/tardy bell at 7:55am, you must sign them into the office as tardy before they can go to their classroom. If your child is going to be late or absent, please also use the Attendance Hotline to let the school know (see above for details).
Please understand that most days your child's teacher uses the time before school to prepare for the instruction. Teachers will share expectations with you and with students about entering their classroom before school. Exceptions may be made for students working on ongoing projects or other teacher choices.
For safety and security reasons, non-staff adults may not enter the building without first checking in to the main office and getting a visitor badge.
Students who are eating breakfast in the cafeteria may always enter the building.
After school, all teachers will take their classes to the playground for pick-up. Students taking the bus or attending Kids Co. will be taken to the appropriate location.
If you're picking up your child, you must do so from the playground. Pick-up starts at 2:05pm. Please use the guidelines above for parking procedures. There will be no pick-up line of cars. Parents must park and pick-up their children on the playground.
If your child is taking the bus home or to off-site childcare, check out our Transportation page for more info.
If you need to pick up your child early, please check in at the office first. Your student will then be brought to the office to meet you there.
Please visit our Before & After School Programs page for details on drop-off and pick-up procedures for students going to onsite After School activities.
New for the 2016-17 school year! If it's pouring down rain at drop off in the morning, each child is to go directly to their homeroom class.
Please drop off your student at the exterior doors. For safety and security reasons the school requires any adults who are not staff to check in at the main office and get a visitor’s badge before going anywhere else in the school.
Note: students may not be dropped off before 7:40am. Thanks for your continued flexibility!
Pick-up after school in the case of rain remains the same as on other days. Teachers will bring students going home by parent pick-up to the east covered outdoor playcourt after the last bell rings at 2:05pm. Parents, for security and space limitation reasons, please wait for your child(ren) in the playground area.
If your student is going to be absent or late (and remember, school starts at 7:55am), please call 206.252.2904 and leave a voice mail with your student’s first and last name, their morning teacher’s last name, and the reason for the tardiness or absence.
This Attendance Hotline is available every day, 24 hours a day. If your student(s) arrive late, they'll still need to go to the main office and sign in to get a blue slip before they can go to class.
Please remember that absences will be marked as unexcused if you don’t communicate with the school.
