What an adventure! I’m eager to join the McDonald community as we create a new international school.
I grew up in Seattle and attended a Saturday Japanese Language School as a child. This led me to become an exchange student to Japan in high school and college. After earning my undergraduate degree in Environmental Design, I had the opportunity to study in Kobe, Japan. During that time I began teaching English, and eventually became an assistant teacher of English in Kobe middle schools for two years. This experience ignited my passion for teaching and working with children.
I returned to Seattle and earned my Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington in 1998. Since then I have worked at Bailey Gatzert Elementary for 13 years as a 3rd and 4th grade classroom teacher as well as a Title I Specialist for literacy and math for grades 3-5. I enjoy the challenge and rewards of teaching a wide range of learners, and believe that fostering curiosity is critical to academic success. Curious students ask questions and are engaged and motivated to learn. Creating lessons that capture student attention and pique their interest is part of why I enjoy teaching so much.
When I’m not at school, I am spending time with my husband and two young children, reading, gardening, hiking or walking our dog. I love to travel and try new things.
